Amerikanischer Prof. Andrei Znamenski: Kalachakra-tantra has nothing to do with peace, compassions, and freedom

Dalai Lama To Host Washington D.C. Peace Festival In July

c. 2011 Religion News Service

WASHINGTON (RNS) The Dalai Lama will visit Washington next month for an 11-day peace rally that is being billed as "the largest gathering for world peace in history."

The July 6-16 "Kalachakra for World Peace" aims to "amplify the profound, unshakable commitment of (the Dalai Lama) to values such as love, compassion, wisdom and interfaith harmony," according to publicity materials.

The first day of the event will mark the Dalai Lama's 76th birthday.

Event activities include dancing, chanting of prayers and teachings by the Dalai Lama on Tibetan Buddhist principles. Like other events hosted by the Dalai Lama, Buddhist monks will create a colorful and detailed sand mandala, or mural, that will be swept away to illustrate the impermanence of life.

A Kalachakra is an ancient Buddhist ceremony that is "capable of creating ... peace of spirit and therefore peace in the world," according to organizers at the Capital Area Tibetan Association, which is hosting the event.

While the ceremony is intended to school Buddhists in various stages of spiritual discipline, organizers also welcome visitors, saying "observers are welcome simply to watch the ritual, absorb what they wish of the teachings, and receive the blessing."

The D.C. event will be the 31st ceremony of its kind overseen by the current Dalai Lama, and promoters say the location in the nation's capital is "of particular significance" as it is "the leading hub of the free world where local decisions deeply and globally affect an incalculable number of lives."

The Dalai Lama's visit comes just months after he announced his retirement from his role as political leader of Tibet's government-in-exile. While he remains the spiritual leader of Tibetan Buddhists, the Dalai Lama said his people need their own freely elected head of government.

Reader Comment of Prof. Andrei Znamenski

It might be shocking for many readers, but let me start by saying that Kalachakra-tantra has nothing to do with peace, compassions, and freedom. In so-called Tantric Buddhism it was a misogynistic power quest performed by male initiates to accumulate sacred power of particular Buddhist deities (lower seven initiations open for all) and, through blending male and female fluids (top secret initiations that involved sexuality), to eventually turn themselves into superhuman androgynous beings. Moreover, part of the Kalachakra teaching was a militant Shambhala prophecy, a call for a Buddhist holy war against enemies of Buddhism, which might sound equally shocking to hear. Before the present Dalai Lama borrowed from Gandhi's teaching, none of his predecessors talked about non-violence as a virtue. All this might be useful to know before coming to the Dalai Lama event in Washington DC. For more details on Kalachakra check my recently published book "Red Shambhala: Magic, Prophecy, and Geopolitics in the Heart of Asia" and especially on-line "Critical Forum Kalachakra" hosted by Trimondi. This is not to offend His Holiness or his numerous American associates. Moreover, we need to commend the Dalai Lama for taking steps to adjust his religion to modern humanistic values such as world peace, ecumenism, feminism, environmentalism; why not to take a next step and openly explain to people what Kalachakra is? We have to be crystal clear: like any religion, Tibetan Buddhism has negative and positive sides.

Indeed it’s a huge misunderstanding that the Lamaism is Buddhism. If we take a look at the Kalachakra Tantra which means "time-wheel" or "time-cycles", we will find out the Tibetan Buddhism is falsfied Buddhism with sex, violence and black magic. Kalachakra Tantra is the most important doctrine of Tibetan Buddhism, and the XIV Dalai Lama as the highest practitioner of Kalachakra Tantra represents the violence, sex rituell and black magic.

It's suggested for readers to take a more step to realize what the real Tibetan Buddhism is. “The world has seen rapid development in the scientific civilization of mankind, but the malignant tumor of evil cults is still rampant, plunging innocent people into the depths of suffering. Evil cults (...) want only preach the fallacy of "the End of the World", destroy social stability and jeopardize the lives and property of the public. Such perverse acts have aroused strong indignation of the people and governments of various countries. Many countries have staged a fight against evil cults by enacting legislation and setting up special agencies.” (From: Carrying forward Buddhism or Fueling Evil Cults? http://www.tibettravel.org/tibettravel/H-tml/200710-11103030-1.html)

If readers are interested in further information, just take a look at the research “Shadow of the Dalai Lama” of Trimondi (http://www.trimondi.de/EN/front.html).
